Be Honest

The hardest thing is being honest, especially with ourselves. But be honest with yourself for the sake of others. This is a tough thing to ask of you because food is such a touchy subject. I have discussed with others about looking at what they eat or drink and they get incredibly defensive. Even something as simple as whether or not they are drinking enough water. Money, self image, and food interrelate also. I cant tell you how many times I’ve heard sarcastic remarks about my body, being privileged, and my food choices. EX: “Must be nice to afford organic,” “why don’t you eat, you’re loosing weight” (lol two months after this same person was telling me I was getting fat) So today I am asking you to be honest with yourself about what you are putting in your body, and why you are putting it in your body. Our self image is directly related to what we eat and how it makes us feel, whether we feel guilty about spending money, feel like shit after we eat things we know aren’t good for our bodies, or fear of what will happen to our bodies by eating. This is a journaling post so get your notes ready and jot things down as they come up.

What is your relationship with food?

Why do you eat? (Weight loss/Weight gain, emotional binging, ect)

What are your fears regarding food? (affordability, weight gain/weight loss, control, food sensitivity, ect.)

  1. As a person recovering from anorexia and having grown up in poverty I often consider calories, cost, quality and ethics when choosing my food. It’s a complex relationship 🙂 Nice health blog you’ve got here!

  2. In modern society food is part of a complex web, fulfilling not just a physical need but also an emotional and social one. What we choose to eat, how we eat, where we eat, where we buy our food, Etc are all identity markers — I would probably label someone who buys their food from a farmer’s market differently from someone who buys their food from the Circle K. Taking this into account, it’s no surprise people got so sensitive about the topic when what we eat correlates to how others perceive us!
